Running Free

A spatter of blood upon the snow and a shadow among the tree.
The whistle of wind or the Hum o' the bow? The wolf is runnin' free
Chorus: Free. Free. Free.
The wolf is runnin' free

The night is still and the moon is high above the misty plain.
A figure moves across the hills and then is gone again,
And what is left but the feelin' of dread and a sudden wince of pain.
Lock up your halls and hide you all. The wolf is off its chain

In days of old, so legends have told, the wolf ran free and wild.
But a wizard came and to make his fame, did trap and bind the child.
With nothing more than a silver thread, the white wolf he beguiled,
Saying "struggle your fill. I break your will and leave you meek and mild"

Chorus:

Now the struggle ensued, and a storm then brewed. A torrent lit the sky
The wolf growled low "Come bring your bow! I must be free or die,
For never the leash and never the lash shall stay me from my cry
Throughout the north, I'll sing it forth, when e'er the moon is high"

Chorus:

The silver thread, bound round his head, held fast. Its magic strong.
But the wolf did grow in time, and so, the strength within its song
At last, one night, by pale moonlight, it sang out loud and long
And from the north, there issued forth, the wolf packs mighty throng.

Chorus:

Mark well this tale, though it turn you pale. The wizard paid his fee.
For the only price the wolf will pay/have is the price of victory.
A spatter of blood upon the snow and a shadow among the tree.
The whistle of wind or the Hum o' the bow? The wolf is runnin' free

Chorus:
And repeat
