Road to Fortune
Chorus:
Well, hey, ho, the piper plays
The sailor curses and the wise man prays
But I am none so I'll spend my days
Walking on the road to fortune
I've fought for kings when I had a mind
And they paid me well or they soon would find
That trust is a coin of a different kind
When I walk on the road to fortune
Chorus
The girls are sweet when the gold is there.
But they leave me quick when they've got their share
So I'll toss the dice 'til my pouch is bare
Then I'll walk on the road to fortune
Chorus
Now some trust God when in fear of harm
While some rely on a woman's charm
But I'll trust none but my good right arm
When I walk on the road to fortune
Chorus
Our King may fall to an army's might
Or a rusty blade in a barroom fight
But I'll earn his gold e'er the fall of night.
When I walk on the road to fortune
Chorus
The noble sleeps on a feathered bed
While dreams of beer fill the beggar's head.
But I will sleep when I'm lying dead
And I've walked on the road to fortune
Chorus
