Hail and well met!

This is where you subscribe to the e-mail list for the Ealdormere Bardic College. Welcome to "Ealdorbards". This is both a discussion and a producing list. That is, we are here to share in a greater body of work, our own. The list is intended to be the stomping grounds of the Ealdormerian Bardic College, as formally introduced at Septentrian 12th Night, 2000 (Jan 15th), with the blessings of Their Majesties, Kildare and Josephine. This idea had been floating around for some time, and there are many people who have worked hard to make it a reality. Thank you all.

How do you become a member of this illustrious order? Stand and be counted. The role of the Bard is to keep the oral tradition of Ealdormere alive in Song, Story and Verse.

How do we do this? I have many ideas. So, I expect, do you. Why do we need to do this? Because as we grow as a Kingdom, we must teach. Everyday that goes by without our stories being told is a day that may allow them to be forgotten. Ealdormere is a land known for its' words and its' songs. "We are a people who sing" (to quote Master Hector).

The College is not intended to have any ranks. Within the College, at present, only one person holds any kind of office. That person is the 'Bard of Ealdormere', as appointed by Their Majesties (or failing appointment, they stay in the office until a new one is appointed), who will act as our official spokesperson, IF SO NEEDED. Their's is the responsibility to ensure that we have a point person, who can direct others to us. They should hold no more sway among us then as a respected peer (notice the small "p"). But all of us have our words (and if you've been getting the gist, that is more than enough). We all hold to the same task. Remember this, and leave politics at the door.

Use this list as a springboard. Gather here to create new pieces. To decide our future. To collect our works, lest we forget. Let us look forward to a new beginning, built on old stories.

Just a few rules/guidelines to keep in mind

1- Edit your responses. Please be considerate and edit your reply to the list properly. Remove excessive or unnecessary parts to the replied message. Keep only what is needed to keep your reply in context. Unless it really applied to the whole list populace, please reply privately to the person who wrote the message.

2- Please refrain from posting files directly to the list. They take up major bandwidth, resulting in longer e-mail download times for everyone on the list especially if they have slower modems. You may, however, post a file if it is under 25k in size, and is relevant to the conversation (or is asked for by another list member).

3- Use common sense. This is perhaps the most important rule of all. Please use your common sense when posting to the list. Don't think it's appropriate? Don't send it. Or at least ask before you do. Ealdorbards is not a moderated list. We believe in self-moderation.

And remember, I reserve the right to remove and ban anyone for continued unacceptable behavior.
